I went on a turkey hunt recently, but not like most people would expect. I did intend to shoot them – but with my camera instead of what you might have originally thought. Along our regular trail, we see all kinds of wildlife, but recently, we’ve had a flock of turkeys gracing the area. We see them in various places – even on the neighbors fence! as we take our long walks. Each time we would see them I would think, “I should go back and get my camera.” But life always seems to find plenty of distractions to keep me from going back. This time, on a whim, I decided to just grab my camera and hope for the best. I was probably a mile down the trail when I noticed the group.

I counted 13 of them this time – in the past the most I had seen was 11. I’m no turkey expert, but it seemed to me that it was a mix of younger birds and older ones just based on their size. Some were resting with their heads tucked in and others were rooting around and pecking the ground.

I found a spot to sit and watch with the creek between me and them and eventually I think they forgot I was there. A few of the smaller ones got close to the edge and I was able to zoom in a bit to see more of their features.

One even decided to come get a sip of water.

I can’t really say that they are “beautiful” looking birds, but they were entertaining to watch.

And now I get to make jokes about how I shot some turkeys.

Always shooting something…. –Angie
These are great Angie, and not easy to capture! There is a flock near my parent’s home that comes through often and my Mom and I always miss our chance, they’re so easily spooked!
Wow! Just wow! I love seeing your part of the world through your lens. Thank you.
This is so cool! I’ve never seen a turkey in real life.
