Sometimes it’s worth getting up at 4.30am

On a recent trip to Khao Lak in Thailand with our eldest son and his girlfriend, we booked a wildlife watching trip to a small island. The early start time necessitated a 4.30am alarm call. We all slightly wondered (the younger members of the party more than slightly, I suspect) whether anything could possibly be worth such an early start; but when we tumbled, bleary eyed, out of our vehicle just before 6am, into the magical misty pastel light of dawn over the Andaman Sea, I for one had no doubt that the early morning light alone was worth the early start.

Sometimes you’ve just got to set the alarm and hope for magic.

  1. I can feel the calm of the early light and water in all the images! Beautiful!

  2. What a gorgeous series, oh my! And I love this line…”the magical misty pastel light of dawn over the Andaman Sea” Would love to learn more about your trip. Seems like it was absolutely worth it to arise that early!
