The air is buzzing in my backyard. Pollinators have returned. The birds are nesting. Bunnies are running wild. My flowers are blooming. Pure joy abounds. In the midst of these early summer days, I decided to shoot a few rolls of 35mm film and soup it with the vivid colorful blooms.

Geraniums, Shasta Daisies, Roses, Petunias, Marigolds, and Coneflowers are growing wildly! I cut a few blooms randomly and added them to the magical mix.

In the past, I’ve souped clouds and oceans and flowers. I shoot a roll and toss it in a glass jar with hot water, soap, lemon juice, and anything else you can imagine. I let it steep for five hours. Rinse under cold water for five minutes and then forget about it on a window ledge. Weeks later I mail it off to my favorite soup film lab, Film Lab 135 . Always be sure to inform your film lab that you’ve souped your film!
I love the serendipity of this experimental process! You never know what will happen and yet it always feels right. Film knows!

What will this garden soup inspiration bring? Stay tuned!
All kinds of magoc, Laura. Amazing.
There’s something extra lovely about using flowers as part of the soup which imprints on the film. The beauty is multiplied! I always enjoy your souped up images! Thanks for sharing, Laura.
