I’ve written about this before, but every month I keep being so pleased that it’s still alive. Way way back when I was just 20 weeks pregnant with our oldest, we started taking backyard family photos. I did it every week during my pregnancy, but then settled in to a monthly routine. This was back in 2013. Somehow I’ve managed to convince my family to keep on doing it every month for more than a decade.

These photos have seen us through the births of both of our children. We moved to a new house and town (and a new backyard). We lost our first dog and have a single month’s photo without her. We got our new dog. We’ve prepped for camping trips, cooled off in the backyard pool, danced, goofed around, been very serious, had crabby days, happy days, silly and sad days. There’s been sunshine, rain, snow, and clouds. And we keep on gathering in the backyard for these photos, month after month.
