Purple Wonderland

I was lucky enough to have acquired Polaroid’s 600 Film Reclaimed Purple over the summer! After watching and waiting for weeks, I couldn’t purchase it fast enough. It arrived one afternoon and I promptly stored it in my film fridge. This past week I decided to play!

Even in the package, she’s a beauty! Love me tender. I couldn’t wait to see what this film could do.

I love how different film stocks make me see the world in a new way. Shadow and light take on a redefined meaning. I notice things I that I hadn’t before. It feels like dipping into a wonderland.

I’ve been thinking a lot about portals lately and I like the way this film captured them. In some ways, I believe film stock can be a type of portal. We remember a time from our youth or perhaps when we held our first film camera. We are transported. Polaroid 600 Reclaimed Purple evoked this in me. I stepped into a wonderland in shades of purple.

I adore the way this film handles contrast, shadows, and light. The image above was made in late afternoon light. I love how playful this film feels.

I have two more Polaroid Purple film packs in my refrigerator. I’m eager to shoot one of them in the evening light of our city’s downtown. I’ve yet to decide where to shoot the third pack. My only regret with this film stock is that I didn’t purchase more! Perhaps I’ll wander in a different city with that third pack of film. Stay with me as I explore this purple wonderland again!
