To play just a bit

I’m staring down the path at the enormous mountain of fall photo session editing that I have in front of me. Don’t get me wrong, I love doing photography as a job – the people I get the honor of working with, the creating of art, the flexibility I’m able to afford myself are all ridiculously amazing perks. Ever since I started back at a more standard 9 to 5, though, the thought of continuing to work on my computer for hours on end in my other-job-work-hours has been less appealing.

What I’ve found, though, the last couple of falls, is that if I can intersperse some of my own personal photos in among my client work, there’s a different incentive. I allow myself a bit more room to play with darks and lights, with tweaking presets beyond where an image may fit in to a client’s gallery.

Do some images wind up past where they probably “should” be? Oh, for sure. But that journey of finding out, of pushing things and sliding those sliders, of playing is rejuvenating.

How do you keep yourself and your photography moving when sometimes standing still seems like it might be the easier path?

All the best,
Alison

  1. Alison, these are stunning images! I definitely go through phases of photography, moving forward at some times and standing still at others.

  2. What I notice about this set of images are the skies and the waters. And how inviting these photos are, capturing the natural world while also highlighting people.

  3. Such beautiful images. I love them all but especially that final one on the water.
